Glucagon-like peptide-1 and satiety
Article Abstract:
The hypothesis that glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) reduced food intake in rats because the compound is a physiological mediator of satiety was tested. Alternative interpretations of the result report that, aside from reducing food intake, GLP-1 may also give rise to strong conditioned taste aversion. In testing the hypothesis, GLP-1 was administered to the intracerebroventricles of undeprived rats. Results reveal that intracerebroventricular GLP-1 generates neural activity in the brainstem. It was also shown that the lowest dose of GLP-1 to lessen food intake supports the development of a conditioned taste aversion.

Life and death of a signal peptide
Article Abstract:
Signal peptides have a short, positively charged amin-terminal n-region, a central hydrophobic h-region and a polar carboxy-terminal c-region. Many interactions between signal peptides and other molecules were believed to be hydrophobic in nature. Paetzel and colleagues have reported the crystal structure of a bacterial signal peptidase, revealing a new protease fold and a hydrophobic surface patch positioning the active site relative to lipid bilayers.
