Gonad-specific virus of corn earworm
Article Abstract:
Agonadal (AG) corn earworm moths, which are a crop pest, contain a gonad-specific virus (GSV) which is found only in the reproductive system of both males and females. The oviduct of infected females contains virus-atypical occlusion bodies which differ from that of the typical nuclear polyhedrosis virus. GSV causes no larval mortality and first-instar larvas fed on virus smeared diet have less AG adults than normal. Populations of this moth in the wild can be controlled by releasing infected females in the fields or by spraying the crops with a virus solution.

Plans to eradicate polio hit by virus outbreak in Bulgaria
Article Abstract:
Two cases of poliomyelitis reported in previously disease-free Bulgaria in March and May 2001 are delaying the total eradication of the disease by the World Health Organization. Both cases were caused by a wild virus, which is not the strain used in vaccinations, and this is causing major concern.
