Group-specific vocal signatures and neighbour-stranger discrimination in the cooperatively breeding green woodhoopoe
Article Abstract:
Group displays involving vocal chorus are a prominent feature of many avian cooperative-breeding birds to assist territory owners when assessing the threat posed by different intruding groups. Woodhoopoes appeared capable of distinguishing between groups on the basis of their vocal signatures, and represent the 'dear-enemy' phenomenon in a group-living species.

Territorial vocal rallying in the green woodhoopoe: Factors affecting contest length and outcome
Article Abstract:
A study is conducted to examine the territorial contests between groups of green woodhoopoes, Phoeniculus purpureus, which take the form of vocal rallying displays. The different possible functions of short and extended contests are considered and the findings in relation to existing models of agonistic interactions are discussed.

Territorial vocal rallying in the green woodhoopoe: influence of rival group size and composition
Article Abstract:
The territorial vocal rallying display of the green woodhoopoe, Phoeniculus purpureus were investigated. Studies indicated that group members vocalized for longer in response to actual and simulated intrusions by larger groups than by smaller ones.
