Habitat management for the eastern Massasauga in a central New York peatland
Article Abstract:
The endangered eastern massasauga rattlesnake is associated with nonforested wetlands, which, over time, become unsuitable as habitat areas. A study designed to assess the effects of habitat management in the Cicero Swamp Wildlife Management Area in Onondaga County, New York, suggests that mechanical cutting of vegetation followed by burning the waste material and herbicide treatment of the area creates a beneficial open habitat, abundant in small mammals and suitable for basking rattlesnakes which could help maintain the species' population.

Nest characteristics of sympatric populations of fox and gray squirrels
Article Abstract:
Gray and fox squirrels sometimes compete for nesting cavities because of the scarcity of available nesting sites. To understand how the two species compete for nesting cavities, radio telemetry was used to track the movement of the squirrels in a habitat in Georgia. The results showed that both species have different criteria for selecting nesting sites. Moreover, the differences in nest site selection reduces the potential for nest site overlap.

Habitat use of sympatric rattlesnake species within the gulf coastal plain
Article Abstract:
The regression analysis of habitats of sympatric rattlesnake species like diamondback rattlesnake and timber rattlesnake within gulf coastal plain shows that the former choose roads while the latter occupy hardwood habitat and riverine systems.
