Habitat use by wintering surf and white-winged scoters: Effects of environmental attributes and shellfish aquaculture
Article Abstract:
The relationships between the shellfish aquaculture industry and habitat use of surf scoters and white-winged scoters, in Baynes Sound, British Columbia, and Canada, which are important for shellfish aquaculture industry and wintering scoters, are quantified. It is found that the levels and forms of shellfish aquaculture at the site were not an important determinant of scoter distribution and abundance, suggesting that winter scoter populations and the shellfish aquaculture industry may be mutually sustainable.

Demographic assessment of a marbled murrelet population from capture-recapture data
Article Abstract:
Research discusses some techniques for estimating the population growth rate of the Marbled Murrelet as these seabirds are secretive and difficult to capture. Results indicate that even the capture-recapture data, although considered to be a robust technique, are unable to pin down the population demographics with any certainty. Development of better field techniques is suggested.
