Nest-site selection by Cooper's hawks in an urban environment
Article Abstract:
The main threat to Cooper's hawks has been identified as loss of nesting habitat because of increasing urbanization, although some birds nest successfully in urban situations. A new study in Tucson, AZ, investigates the features needed in the urban landscape for the successful nesting of Cooper's hawks. It is shown that Cooper's hawks in urban areas generally nest in small stands of tall exotic trees. Another factor determining nesting sites is the availability of water. It is suggested that the planting of aleppo pine and eucalyptus in urban areas may provide new nesting opportunities for Cooper's hawks.

Habitat selection and movement of pond-breeding amphibians in experimentally fragmented pine forests
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to determine the effect of destruction and alteration of natural habitat on pond amphibians. Results showed that harvest planning in areas close to breeding sites of amphibians was important in wildlife management.
