Heroes of conservation
Article Abstract:
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) inspired many people in the preservation of wildlife. WCS awarded a research grant to Patricia Majluf, a Peruvian zoology graduate student from Cambridge University, toward a study of southern fur seal which were slowly becoming extinct due to mismanagement by Peruvian fisheries management agency. David 'Jonah' Western, who established the Amboseli National Park in 1974, studied the decline of black rhino population in Kenya. He was responsible for a ban on ivory trade, which resulted in the decline in elephant poaching. Helen Gichohi, an African WCS enthusiast, is studying hard to promote Nairobi National Park.

Champions of the wind: volunteer pilots bring the power of flight to conservation
Article Abstract:
Volunteer pilots have joined the conservationist movement and their efforts have made a large impact in the lives of many endangered species. Pilots are used to fly wounded animals to places where they can receive help and transport people and supplies to hard-to-access areas. LightHawk, The Environmental Air Force, has helped stop destruction of some sites by flying political leaders over areas that would be affected by human development. They now have three planes and serve nine countries, concentrating on Central America.
