Correlates of behavioral dominance in mallards and American black ducks
Article Abstract:
A study of the effects of morphological and hormonal factors on male dominance interactions between controlled American black ducks and mallards shows that mallards are not dominant to black ducks. Origin and home pen dominance are consistently correlated with trial dominance. The dominance relationship between Ontario mallards and wild black ducks varied with time. The size-adjusted body mass correlates with the formation of dominance hierarchies in spring.

Energetic cost of sexual attractiveness: ultrasonic advertisement in wax moths
Article Abstract:
Pair formation in the lesser wax moth, Achroia grisella (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) is started by male ultrasonic signals that attract females. The resting and signalling metabolic rates of males whose relative attractiveness are known, were determined. Results showed that, on the average, attractive males had higher net metabolic rates and factorial metabolic ranges compared to unattractive ones, but many unattractive males also had high values.
