Importance of roadless areas in biodiversity conservation in forested ecosystems: case study of the Klamath-Siskiyou ecoregion of the United States
Article Abstract:
The ecological attributes of mapped roadless areas for the Klamath-Siskiyou ecoregion of northwestern California and southwestern Oregon are studied. Fragmentation analyses for the Klamath-Siskiyou ecoregion showed that roadless areas and designated wilderness provide an important foundation upon which to develop a comprehensive regional conservation strategy.

Patterns of Fire Severity and Forest Conditions in the Western Klamath Mountains, California
Article Abstract:
Research on California's Klamath range indicates that fuel buildup without fire-induced reduction did not foster increased fire severity, but instead may actually decrease the growth of fuel receptive to combustion. Other findings are discussed.

Status of Mature and Old-Growth Forests in the Pacific Northwest
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that the Northwest Forest Plan, implemented in 1994, has contributed to old-growth forest conservation, but that periodical monitoring and stronger protections are key to its ultimate success.
