In search of gamma-secretase
Article Abstract:
Presenilins are needed for the production of Notch proteolytic products implicated in signalling. It has been shown that loss-of-function mutations in the Drosphila presenilin gene have a lethal Notch-like phenotype. It appears that the amount and subcellular localization of Notch is identical in wild-type and mutant embryos, suggesting that the defects are actually caused by the absence of Notch signalling activity. Research in this area remains inconclusive, and it is possible to argue both that presenilins are gamma-secretase and that they directly traffic beta-amyloid precursor protein and Notch to the correct cellular compartment for gamma-secretase processing.

Genetic and environmental contributions to the acquisition of a motor skill
Article Abstract:
Practice reduces the influence of environmental variation and increases the influence of genotypic factors during the acquisition of a motor skill. Heredity is the major factor that leads to differences in motor performance among individuals. The increase in environmental similarity causes a lesser decrease in twin differences for dizygotic twins than for monozygotic twins. Nonadditive genetic effects may also affect the differences in the acquisition of motor skills.
