Increasing the costs of conspecific scanning in socially foraging starlings affects vigilance and foraging behavior
Article Abstract:
The various aspects of conspecific scanning in the social foraging behavior of the starling, Sturnus vulgaris were investigated experimentally. Results suggest that the head-up posture is only one component of scanning, that the effects of head-down scanning should be considered in species having ample visual fields, and that scanning in starlings is strongly connected to monitoring other flock members.

Stereotypic route-tracing in experimentally caged songbirds correlates with general behavioral disinhibition
Article Abstract:
The route-tracing stereotypy in blue tits, Parus caeruleus, and marsh tits, P. palustris, caged in a behavioral research laboratory is investigated. The stereotypes correlate with a sign of altered brain functioning, the general disinhibition of behavior, found in stereotyping human patients and animals treated with psychostimulants.
