Vocal signature recognition of mothers by fur seal pups
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted, with artificially modified signals in playback, to investigate the effectiveness of vocal recognition between pups and mothers in Subantartic fur seals. The result revealed that vocal identification process is asymmetrical, as mothers mainly use temporal structures to recognize their pup's call.

Mother's voice recognition by seal pups
Article Abstract:
Issues are presented concerning the ability of seal pups to learn the call of their mothers before she departs to sea to fish for food. The importance of the call in vocalizations between mother and pup to her ability to find her pup is discussed.

The duetting behavior in the tropical boubou, Laniarius aethiopicus, in West Africa was investigated. Various contexts in which duets were sung suggests that they serve several purposes, including territorial defense and mutual mate guarding.
