Indians within conservation units: lessons from the Atlantic forest
Article Abstract:
A fiery debate between those who believe Indians and other 'traditional communities' can live inside conservation units without depleting the biodiversity and others who deny this position based on the ecological effect of these communities on local biodiversity is reported. Several study cases in the Atlantic forest of Brazil suggest that Indian reserves and conservation units have less biodiversity than areas without people.

Conservation value of private lands for Crested Caracaras in Florida
Article Abstract:
Studies done on the patterns of distribution and reproductive activity of breeding pairs of caracaras in relation to patterns of land ownership and use are presented. Results suggest that finding ways to preserve large cattle ranches in south-central Florida is an important component in conservation planning for this Crested Caracara population.

Inherent rarity in community restoration
Article Abstract:
The implications of inherent rarity for community restoration are explored. The assumption that if a habitat is created then colonist comes, is applicable to some species only. It is expected that passive connectivity is insufficient to ensure colonization of restored buffers, corridors or stepping-stone habitats.
