Indirect benefits of marine protected areas for Juvenile abalone
Article Abstract:
Studies done on the abundance of juvenile (3-90 mm) red abalone, (Haliotis rufescens) and the rare flat (<90 mm) abalone (H.walallensis) on protected and fished rocky reefs in California are discussed. Results of the study demonstrates how a management strategy including a system of marine protected areas designed for one fished species can help other species, illustrating their usefulness of ecosystem-based fishery management and marine conservation.

Centennial Decline in the Trophic Level of an Endangered Seabird after Fisheries Decline
Article Abstract:
Decline in Marbled Murrelet populations are attributed to decreased prey resources, particularly after the Pacific sardine fishery collapse in the 1940s. Murrelets now must hunt further down the region's food web, exacerbating poor reproduction.

Shifts in a Pacific Ocean Fish Assemblage: the Potential Influence of Exploitation
