Individuality in songs of Acadian flycatchers and recognition of neighbors
Article Abstract:
Acadian flycatchers sing complex songs with little variation among individuals and the measurement of frequency and timing revealed that individuals' songs included consistent but slight individual differences. A comparison of the differences between songs of territorial neighbors and between more distant males revealed no evidence that neighbors learn the features of each other's songs.

Local variation in Barbary macaque shrill barks
Article Abstract:
Vocalizations of Barbary macaques, Macaca sylvanus, in response to a dog in two populations were examined. There were overall similarities, although significant differences in the call structure between populations were revealed by acoustic analysis. Playback experiments were also undertaken and overall response patterns did not significantly differ between populations.

Age-dependent effects of song exposure: song crystallization sets a boundary between fast and delayed vocal imitation
Article Abstract:
Song crystallization in oscine birds is studied and analyses of the bird's singing yielded clear evidence for late song learning and also a striking phase-related shift in their memory properties. It was revealed with the help of findings that auditory song acquisition in nightingales extends well into the phase of vocal production.
