Influence of comfort and social stimuli on a comfort movement and a display derived from it
Article Abstract:
The extent of emancipation of the Whistle-shake display of male shelducks, Tadorna tadorna, from causal factors controlling the Body-shake was examined in an artificial rain experiment. Whistle-shakes were induced in spring even in the absence of social stimuli. In contrast, Body-shakes were performed by the birds predominantly in the summer season. These results were probably related to the seasonal production of sex hormones.
