Influence of population growth on caribou herd identity, calving ground fidelity, and behavior
Article Abstract:
The historic and the latest changes, from 1981-2002, in abundance, movements, and seasonal distribution of caribou in southwest Alaska are described. Some biologists believe that caribou herds could be considered as closed populations for management purposes as the number of dispersing caribou is too small and has not influenced the population dynamics.

Growth and sustainability of black bears at White River National Wildlife Refuge, Arkansas
Article Abstract:
Black bears (Ursus americanus) were trapped and radiotracked to determine level of exploitation and compare methods for estimating population growth and sustainability. Survival estimates based on radiotracking and mark-recapture showed that hunting and translocations were significant sources of loss.

Demographic parameters and harvest-explicit population viability analysis for polar bears in M'Clintock Channel, Nunavut, Canada
Article Abstract:
Mark-capture and recovery data collected from 348 marked polar bears from 1972 to 2000 is used to estimate demographic characteristics and harvest risks of M'Clintock Channel polar bear population. Results indicate that polar bears in this area have decreased significantly since 1972.
