Influence of time-in-residence on home range and habitat use of bobcats
Article Abstract:
Research undertaken within the Tallahala Wildlife Management Area in Bienville National Forest, MS, and on land owned by Georgia Pacific Corp in Newton and Jasper counties, MS, into the impact of time-in-residence on bobcat home range size and habitat use indicates that home range size of male bobcats rises with time-in-residence. In contrast, habitat use remains relatively unchanged. It is possible that experience, as well as habitat quality, has an impact on home range size of female bobcats. It is clear that bobcat home range dynamics are complex, with time-in-residence playing some part.

Wood duck and mallard winter microhabitats in Mississippi hardwood bottomlands
Article Abstract:
A study of wood ducks (Aix sponsa) and mallards (Anas playtyrhynchos) in three greentree reservoirs in Mississippi reveals that the microhabitats of mallards are of lower forest-density and diversity than the microhabitats of wood ducks. The two species are found in forested wetlands, particularly in bottomlands which contain red oak trees. Mallard feeding is reduced by an increase in the depth of the pond or lake. The preservation of the forested wetlands is necessary for the survival of the two species.
