The potential consequences of pollinator declines on the conservation of biodiversity and stability of food crop yields
Article Abstract:
A working group of more than 20 field scientists has surveyed evidence of pollinator declines and recommended steps to fill gaps in knowledge and to conserve pollinator species. Suggested measures include developing or domesticating pollinators other than honeybees, determining the factors that limit reproduction of cultivated plants, and investigating how pollination rates can be improved. Crop breeders should consider factors that attract pollinators when developing horticultural varieties. Farm management practices such as intercropping and hedgerows may be used to maintain pollinators. Genetic stocks of honeybees and alternative pollinators should be preserved.

Pollinator extinction in the pacific islands
Article Abstract:
The lack of ecosystem-wide study on pollination in the Pacific islands is noted. It is noted that the entire pollinator sets including indigenous birds, bats, and insects are disappearing. Strategies to preserve the ecosystem of the Pacific island are identified.

Conservation implications of Chamorro consumption of flying foxes as a possible cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis-Parkinsonism dementia complex in Gua
Article Abstract:
Research has been conducted on Chamorro consumption of flying foxes in Guam. The authors suggest that this consumption may be the results of cumulative doses of cycad neurotoxins because flying foxes forage on cycad seeds.
