Infrared remote sensing of breaking waves
Article Abstract:
Wave-breaking dynamics can be quantified remotely using an infrared imager to measure the thermal changes associated with the disruption and recovery of the surface thermal boundary layer. When a wave breaks, the relatively cool surface thermal boundary layer is disrupted, and the surface temperature of the turbulent wake is approximately equal to the bulk temperature. When the wake subsides, the surface layer recovers and the surface temperature returns to its cooler value. Infrared imaging can remotely detect and measure these subtle temperature changes.

Low electrical resistivity associated with plunging of the Nazca flat slab beneath Argentina
Article Abstract:
The outlines of the depth of seismic activity are located with the Nazca flat slab under central Chile and Argentina. High resistivity extending at least 200 km of the vertical conductor can be interpreted as the root of the Rio de la Plata craton, the descent of the buoyant Nazca flat slab was triggered by collision with this electrically and mechanically resistive root.
