Insect protection against viruses
Article Abstract:
The immune response of the insect pest Helicoverpa zea is effective against the viral pathogen baculovirus Autographa californica M nuclear polyhedrosis virus containing the lacZ reporter gene (AcMNPV). The larvae of the insect are highly susceptible to infection by AcMNPV but the infected cells are covered by haemocytes and cleared from the system. The resistance of H. zea and other pest species may be reduced by including polydnavirus genes with immunosuppressant activity in AcMNPV genome.

RAMPs regulate the transport and ligand specificity of the calcitonin-receptor-like receptor
Article Abstract:
Genetic research shows that the calcitonin-receptor-like receptor (CRLR) acts as a adrenomedullin receptor or calcitonin-gene-related peptide receptor according to gene expression. Cloning experiments have established that single-transmembrane-domain protein, that is receptor-activity-modifying protein (RAMP), expression directly affects function. RAMPs are involved in the transportation of CRLR.
