Japanese media fuel fears of 'endocrine disrupters'
Article Abstract:
Japanese researches say that the public's fears about the likely effects of so-called 'endocrine disrupters' are founded on media hype. They argue that reports suggesting that some synthetic compounds may disrupt human reproductive functions should be viewed objectively. Japan is allocating more than 18 billion yen to research endocrine disrupters, which are unregulated in Japan and which include chemicals such as dioxins and polychlorinated biphenyls.

A non-metal system for nitrogen fixation
Article Abstract:
The way in which the nitrogen fixation can be achieved by using a non-metallic buckminsterfullerene (C60) molecule, in the form of a water-soluble C60: gamma-cyclodextrin (1:2) complex, and light under nitrogen at atmospheric pressure is described. This metal free system efficiently fixes nitrogen under mild conditions by making use of the redox properties of the fullerene derivative.

Endocrine disrupters and flavonoid signalling
Article Abstract:
It has been established that some endocrine-disrupting chemicals hamper the symbiotic signalling that leads to nitrogen fixation. It is possible that these phytochemically activated pathways have some elements in common with hormonal signalling in vertebrates.
