Kuwait oil lakes as insect traps
Article Abstract:
Iraq's torching of Kuwaiti oil wells and pipelines during the 1991 Gulf War created hundreds of oil ponds that now serve as animal traps. Animals are victimized by these pools in a variety of ways. Land animals become stuck during migration or foraging, while birds get caught when they land on the oil lakes. It is proposed that insects are drawn to the oil ponds by the strong polarization of light reflected from the surface of the water that overlies the oil.

Electronic spin transport and spin precession in single graphene layers at room temperature
Article Abstract:
The spin transport, as well as Larmor spin precession in single graphene layers are examined at room temperature. It is shown that the reduction of the role of spin-orbit interaction by combining high-mobility graphene layers with quantum confinement might increase the spin relaxation time at low temperatures.
