Last chance to stop and think of risks of xenotransplants
Article Abstract:
It is widely recognized that xenotransplantation could eventually bring significant medical benefits. However, there is still considerable debate about whether xenotransplantation should be permitted to enter the clinical environment and, if so, under what conditions. There is particular concern about the risk of transmitting animal viruses to humans, possibly triggering pandemics. Some observers believe that public debate should take place before clinical trials go ahead.

Poll reveals backing for xenotransplants
Article Abstract:
Many Americans have only limited knowledge about xenotransplantation, according to a poll undertaken by market research concern Southeastern Institute of Research. However, more than three-quarters of the 1,200 people surveyed indicated that they would consider a xenotransplant for somebody close to them if a human organ or tissue were not available. Only 13% were concerned about the risks from infectious diseases, even though this is a key concern for scientists.
