Kauai's National Tropical Botanical Garden director of conservation David Burney and his wife, Lida Piggott Burney startet exploring the Makauwahi Cave in 1992. They aim to study and restore the lost Kauai ecosystem through the fossils found in the cave. Details of the Burneys' work at the cave are presented.

The antbed parrot

The fine feathered bird clings to an eccentric existence in Australia, which is explained. The antbed parrots nests only on termite mounds and a male golden-shouldered parrot perches atop the termite mound in which he and his mate have dug out a nest hole.
