Light-induced amphiphilic surfaces
Article Abstract:
Ultraviolet irradiation can be used to produce glass coated with titanium dioxide (TiO2) which is both antifogging and self-cleaning. Researchers used a thin TiO2 polycrystalline film made from anatase sol on a glass substrate. This was annealed at 773 K. All liquids tested spread across the surface on ultraviolet irradiation, with irradiation producing a surface which was extremely hydrophilic and oleophilic. There are many practical applications for highly amphiphilic surfaces.

Molecules at the edge
Article Abstract:
Solvation is a process whereby dissimilar molecules interact without bonding chemically, and an area of research is how solvation changes at the point where two diverse fluids meet. The research of A.V. Benderskii and K.B. Eisenthal shows that solvation is dynamically and structurally different between different fluids than it is within a bulk liquid.
