Limited perception of video images by domestic hens
Article Abstract:
Domestic hens' perception of video images was investigated in two experiments using the Y-maze. The first involved discrimination between video images, second between video images and real objects. An analysis of the results of both experiments indicated that video images are not entirely equivalent to the real objects for hens. Some things that hens accurately discriminate between two stimuli include size, shape and color, but this performance took a significant time and trials to achieve.

Food deprivation during observation reduces social learning in hens
Article Abstract:
The effect of food deprivation on social learning in hens is analyzed. Results show that food deprivation during observation sessions has an inhibitory effect on the subsequent responses of hens paired with trained demonstrators. Moreover, non-deprived hens are more attentive to details. Therefore, satiation is a better motivational basis than hunger for the acquisition of general environmental information.

Can domestic fowl, Gallus gallus domesticus, show self-control?
Article Abstract:
A standard two key operant task and an equivalent two-choice return maze (TCRM) task is used to investigate self-control for food in domestic fowl. The hens appeared to be unable to discriminate in the TCRM when they chose between a 2-s delay to a 3-s feed access (impulsive) and a 6-s delay to a 7-s feed access (self-control) but were impulsive in the operant task.
