Local and landscape-level factors influencing black tern habitat suitability
Article Abstract:
Characteristics of whole landscapes, as well as attributes of individual wetlands, must be taken into account when assessing habitat suitability. This research, undertaken in eastern South Dakota, identified local and landscape factors affecting wetland suitability for black terns. It was found that both local and landscape factors affect habitat suitability for nesting and foraging black terns. Acquisition programs intended to protect habitat for black terns should maintain the integrity of whole prairie landscapes.

Nonlinear modeling of muskrat use of habitat
Article Abstract:
Conventional aerial surveys of lodges have proven inadequate in assessing the population density of muskrats since these animals often remain in their burrows. However, two models for creating a habitat estimation for muskrat populations have been developed based on logistic regression. The two models reduce the data collection time as well as increase the accuracy of the estimations. A discussion of the mechanics of the two models is presented.
