Mad cows, bats and baby milk
Article Abstract:
The UK media's presentation of scientific findings on bovine spongiform encephalopathy infected cows has caused confusion among the public. The spread of rabies virus by infected bat and low-level contamination of baby milk with phthalate esters are two other issues. The media fails to give proper coverage to the various stages, such as hypothesis and confirmed results, of a scientific process. The role of media in educating the public on potential health hazards is crucial.
