Defense Department's Biodiversity Initiative
Article Abstract:
The US Dept. of Defense's (DoD) Biodiversity Initiative aims to develop a strategy for managing plant and animal habitats on military installations. Since its launching in 1994, the project has already produced the manual 'A Biodiversity Handbook for Natural Resources Managers,' the brochure 'A DoD Commander's Guide to Biodiversity' and the DoD Biodiversity Management Strategy. The implementation of the department's conservation policy at the Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada and at the McChord Air Force BAse in Tacoma, WA, is discussed.
