Mass-spectrometric U-series dates for Israeli Neanderthal/early modern hominid sites
Article Abstract:
Dates for dental fragments obtained from the Middle Paleolithic burial sites at Tabun, Qafzeh and Skhul in Israel have been determined using 230Th/234U dating. In combination with electron spin resonance-determined ages, these findings support the notion that the Neanderthals at Tabun and the Homo sapiens at Qafzeh existed during the same era 100 plus-minus5 kyr ago. The remains from Skhul were found to be much younger. This study demonstrates the utility of 230Th//234U and electron spin resonance dating for determining the age of archaelogical sites beyond radiocarbon dating range.

Direct dating of Florisbad hominid
Article Abstract:
The hominid remains discovered at the Florisbad spring, South Africa, are almost 259,00 years old. According to the last reconstruction in 1983, the Florisbad fossils have an age range estimate of 100,000 to 200,000 years old. Electron spin resonance study and optically stimulated luminescence dating support this age range. The results of the dating studies show that the Florisbad spring was occupied by hominids 125,000 years ago during the last interglacial age.

Article Abstract:
Lokalalei 2C archaeological site yielded almost 3,000 archaeological finds. some 60 sets of complementary matching stone artefacts were reconstituted. The refits, predated the Koobil Fora refits by 500 Kyr, and are the oldest ever studied. The core reduction sequences are analyzed, based on the refits, enabling accuracy in the understanding of flake production processes. A greater cognitive capacity and motor skill for early hominids is thus demonstrated.
