The tumour suppressor protein VHL targets hypoxia-inducible factors for oxygen-dependent proteolysis
Article Abstract:
Hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) is important in cellular hypoxia responses. The crucial role for the von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) tumour suppressor gene product pVHL in HIF-1 regulation is demonstrated. The interaction between HIF-1 and pVHL may be iron dependent and required for the oxygen-dependent degradation of HIF alpha-subunits. HIF-1 activation may thus underlie the angiogenic phenotype of VHL tumours.

Interaction of c-Abl and p73-alpha and their collaboration to induce apoptosis
Article Abstract:
There is evidence for the existence of a signalling pathway involving both p73 and c-Abl as mediators of apoptosis. p73 protein levels do not rise following genotoxic stress, but c-Abl does respond to at least some conditions of genotoxic stress. It was established that p73 is a substrate of the c-Abl kinase. The ability of c-Abl to phosphorylate p73 is substantially boosted by gamma-radiation.
