Medical institute opens amid hopes of Kansas rebirth

The November 2000 opening of the $200 million Stowers Institute for Medical Research in Kansas City, Missouri is an indication of the growth of large-scale philanthropic interest in American biomedical research. The citizens of Kansas City hope that the opening of the institute will give the city the opportunity to develop into a major centre for life sciences.
