Methane finding baffles scientists
Article Abstract:
The newly revealed methane emissions have taken plant physiologists by surprise, as far more energy is required to create methane than carbon dioxide in an oxygenated environment. Detecting methane was easy as the amount released by individual plants is tiny compared with levels already in the atmosphere and methane is the second most important greenhouse gas in the atmosphere after carbon dioxide and levels have doubled over 200 years, as a result of increased agricultural activity.

Comet chasers get mineral shock
Article Abstract:
The scientists at NASA were stunned to find a huge range of minerals in the particles captured by NASA's Stardust probe as it swooped past the comet Wild 2 on 2 January 2004. The grains are the first material ever brought back from a comet and are the first geological samples collected from space since the Soviet Luna 24 mission brought back Moon rocks two decades ago.
