Microfibre-nanowire hybrid structure for energy scavenging
Article Abstract:
The article discusses the design of a new microfibre-nanowire hybrid structure built on hard substrates, which is employed for harvesting the local mechanical energy produced by high-frequency ultrasonic waves. The technique is found to be extremely useful for scavenging light-wind energy and body-movement energy using fabrics.

Less excitement for more gain
Article Abstract:
Researchers have finely tuned the energy states of a nanocrystal to make pumping much easier, which might further lower optical pumping thresholds by orders of magnitude. These colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals can be used from telecommunications to medical diagnostics.

Low-energy acoustic plasmons at metal surfaces
Article Abstract:
A study results suggest that a low energy collective excitation mode found on bare metal is caused by the coexistence of a partially occupied quasi-2D surface-state band with the underlying 3D bulk electron continuum.
