Midsummer madness: how an unexpected allegory led to the birth of a new subject
Article Abstract:
Gautam Desiraju narrates his experiences in the laboratory of Hydrabad which he found very rural without a single sign of crystal X-ray diffractometer, the main equipment that he needed for work on crystal structure determination, in the 1980s. Then the summer of 1982 led him to Cambridge where John Meurig Thomas begun a vigorous programme on organic topotactic reactions.

Structural basis for substrate binding, cleavage and allostery in the tRNA maturase RNase Z
Article Abstract:
The crystal structure of 'Bacillus subtilis' RNase Z is reported and a mechanism for transfer RNA (tRNA) recognition and cleavage is proposed. The structure explains the allosteric properties of the enzyme.
