More precise solar-limb light-bending
Article Abstract:
Astronomers from Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, the Haystack Observatory and Massachusetts Institute of Technology successfully measured the deflection of radiation travelling near the limb of the Sun with an uncertainty of 0.2%. Very long baseline interferometry was used for measuring the time delays in signals from radio-quasars passing near the sun's limb. Quasar 3C279 was used as the target radio source and an adjacent quasar, 3C273B, separated from the first by 10 degrees, was used as a standard.

Contention over growth promoters
Article Abstract:
The use of growth promoting agents for livestock was the focus of debates during the EC's conference on growth promoters. The issue has been alive since 1988, but received considerable attention in 1995 because of the dramatic increase in growth-promoting substances during the year. A primary concern for the use of these agents is their safety to farm animals and the health hazards they pose to consumers. Another topic of concern is the implication of using these agents to society.

The model for almost all seasons?
Article Abstract:
The Ising model used to explain ferromagnets has applications throughout physics. It consists of a three-dimensional cubic lattice with a dipole magnet at each vertex. The interaction of the lattice magnets is incalculable, but Lars Onsager solved it for a two-dimensional lattice, leading to applications in calculating polymer molecules' configurations. Computers are now capable of providing numerical approximations of the three-dimensional case.
