Mosquito production mooted as fast track to malaria vaccine
Article Abstract:
Stephen Hoffman, founder of Sanaria Company based in Gaithersburg, claims that it is possible to produce billions of parasites to manufacture a vaccine directly. He intends to breed millions of mosquitoes, grow them on cultures of infected red blood cells, dissect out the sporozoites from the mosquitoes' salivary glands, purify and store them, and find ways of getting them into people.
