Neophilia and exploration in juvenile common ravens, Corvus corax
Article Abstract:
Juvenile birds showed curiosity for the objects which they had never seen before, irrespective of their food value, shine or distinctiveness, as revealed by the studies of the causes for attraction of the common ravens, Corvus corax, towards glittering objects. Interest of the birds towards unusual items however faded with time in the cases of inedible items. Eventually edible items became the favorite items for the ravens. Neophilia was shown by the chicks even after they were well fed, whereas adult ravens showed neophilia only when they were hungry.

Raven roosts are mobile information centres
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to observe foraging and roosting behavior of wandering, non-breeding common ravens (Corvus corax) in the forests of Western Maine for several winters. Experiments and observations of tagged ravens suggest that group assembly is an important function of successful foraging for non-breeding vagrant ravens. Group assembly is made easier by communal roosting, and roosts appear to function as information centers.

Influence of competitors on caching behaviour in the common raven, Corvus corax
Article Abstract:
Caching is a behavior seen among mammals and birds in the presence of food that can be kept with a variable supply. Four captive common ravens were used to investigate caching behavior in the presence of conspecifics. The presence of competitors alters caching behavior. Ravens cached further from the food source or delayed caching in the presence of competitors. Cache robbing also influences the behavior of the test subjects.
