Nest-site selection in Savannah sparrows: using gulls as scarecrows?
Article Abstract:
Nest-site selection behavior among Savannah sparrows shows an inverse relationship with predation rates. Sparrows react more to American crows as potential predators than to herring gulls. Reproductive success is the greatest when the sparrows nest in an isolated area with least predatory threat. Nesting among gulls reduces the risk of nest predation by crows, since gulls protect the area from their common predator. The tendency to nest near gulls is hardly related to heredity or early experience.

Postfledging parental care in Savannah sparrows: sex, size and survival
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to investigate the postfledging parental care in Philopatric population of Savannah sparrows, and understand the factors influencing adult birds' decisions about parental investment in offspring. The result suggests that sex-biased provisioning may be unlikely except in species with strongly sexually dimorphic offspring, biased offspring sex ratios and sex-biased natal dispersal.

Asymmetrical incest avoidance in the choice of social and genetic mates
Article Abstract:
The selection of genetically unrelated partners for mating by savannah sparrows (Passerculus sandwichensis) is discussed. Microsatellite paternity analysis was used to establish the results.
