Nuclear fusion from explosions of femtosecond laser-heated deuterium clusters
Article Abstract:
The intense illumination of deuterium clusters prompts DD fusion, according to research involving the observation of nuclear fusion from the explosions of deuterium clusters heated with a high-repetition-rate table-top laser. No neutron production was seen in the gas jet with temperatures higher than -120 degrees C, the temperature at which larger-cluster formation with Rayleigh scattering is no longer seen. This research should prompt a range of fusion experiments using small-scale lasers.

Time for a belated rethink of fusion's goals
Article Abstract:
The International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) programme is continuing without adequate review of project goals and objectives. ITER partner governments in Europe, Japan, US and Russia have all faced increasing financial and political pressures since the project was conceived in 1985. They have been less able, and indeed less inclined, to commit research funding to the project. Future discussions are vital if a realistic and achievable project strategy is to be established.
