German astronomers fight rumoured closing of institute
Article Abstract:
Theoretical astrophysicists are protesting Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics' proposed closure after unsuccessful attempts to replace the institute's director. Researchers say the Max Planck Society is not considering their scientific productivity or student training programs and the closing will save very little money because the institute uses only 0.7% of the Society's budget. Officials state that money is not an issue, but they are looking to save money after incorporating several East German science programs.
