Origin of the arthropod mandible
Article Abstract:
The arthropod mandible initially consisted of a whole limb and was structurally similar to the present-day mandibles of the myriapods. The structure of the arthropod mandible changed during its evolution from a whole limb to a limb base. The limb base mandible structure is a common feature of both insects and crustaceans. The evolutionary finding suggests that the insect and the crustacean mandibles are basically similar and crustaceans are the sister group of insects rather than that of the myriapods.

Rapid speciation in an arthropod
Article Abstract:
The rate of speciation in Laupala, a group of forest-dwelling Hawaiian crickets, is discussed. A divergence in courtship or sexual behavior drives rapid speciation in them, indicating a likely force behind the explosion of Hawaiian cricket species.
