Overview of the yeast genome
Article Abstract:
The basic features of the sequence of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae genome is presented, giving a summary of the function of the encoded proteins, and the architecture of the genome. Around 300,000 independent sequence reads formed the final sequence, and the complete sequence allows the comprehensive examination of eukaryotic species evolution. The raw sequence data assessment aimed to link genetic entities to biological knowledge through computational analysis, or the linking of information to other experiments.

The nucleotide sequence of Saccharomyces cerevisiae chromosome XV
Article Abstract:
Chromsome XV of Saccharomyces cerevisiae is the third largest yeast and of similar size to chromosome VII, representing 9% of the yeast genome. 93 genes were identified at the start of systematic sequencing, most of which were mapped. The sequence was determined from the derivation of partly overlaping cosmid clones from a unique strain of yeast, and physically mapped. Many new open reading frames were found, and a high proportion of orphan genes was confirmed.

The nucleotide sequence of Saccharomyces cerevisiae chromosome XIV and its evolutionary implications
Article Abstract:
A library of cosmid clones from saccharomyces cerevisiae chromosome XIV was assembled, and the systematic sequence analysis of chromosome XIV was begun in 1993. The final sequence contained 419 known protein-coding genes, and one or more structural homologues of the 116 protein-coding sequences were elsewhere identified in the yeast genome. The possible evolutionary origins of the yeast genome organization are examined.
