The influence of body coloration on shoaling preferences in fish
Article Abstract:
Shoaling behaviour provides major benefits in terms of predator protection. Studies have shown that fish discriminate between potential shoalmates based on several differing characteristics. The effects of body coloration on associations choices made by black and white mollies, Poecilia latipinna, were studied. The results indicated that fish due use visual clues to actively discriminate between potential shoalmates on the basis of body colouration.

Why do Gunnison's prairie dogs give anti-predator calls?
Article Abstract:
Males and females of a colony of Gunnison's prairie dogs, Cynomys gunnisoni, make anti-predator calls with comparative frequency. Contrary to females, male calls are unrelated to the kinship of listeners. The anti-predator calls by animals are fraught with risks, as they become more vulnerable to predation. The chances of calling are greater when the gunnisons are at a distance from the stuffed badger and hence less vulnerable to predation.
