Partners for wildlife
Article Abstract:
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in association with the Partners for Wildlife Program coordinates the efforts of private landowners to restore wildlife habitat on private property. The program benefits endangered species such as aquatic plants and animals. Habitat loss from urbanization and agriculture has caused the depletion of several native plants and animal communities. Over 13,000 land owners have implemented the scheme. To promote greater participation, policies for landowners have been adopted assuring the return of restored habitats once the undertaking of land agreement expires.

Wildlife, people, and contaminants
Article Abstract:
The US Fish and Wildlife Service's (FWS) Environmental Contaminants Program is actively involved in the identification and prevention of ecosystem pollution. Contaminants from municipal wastes, factories and other sources may degrade very slowly or cause prolonged sublethal effects such as impaired growth, lowered reproduction and behavioral abnormalities. Bioaccumulation and biomagnification compound these harmful effects. The FWS checks the point source discharges from industries and factories, and helps in providing better environment for animals and birds.

Reconciling conflicts through habitat conservation planning
Article Abstract:
Habitat conservation planning (HCP), one of the most important programs under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), provides a solution to the endangered species issue on non-Federal lands. It provides a basis for conservation on a large scale and encourages partnerships between business and regulatory and conservation groups. The ESA provides various forms of protection, but the most basic is the prohibition against an action that may harm a federally listed endangered species or alter its habitat.
