Female-female aggression and female mate choice on black grouse leks
Article Abstract:
Research into female-female aggression with regard to female mate choice in black grouse, Tetrao tetrix, in central Finland is presented. One possible reason for aggressive behaviour among females is to ensure undisturbed copulation.

Paternity, copulation disturbance and female choice in lekking black grouse
Article Abstract:
In black grouse, Tetrao tetrix, the copulation takes place only on lek arenas where the females mate only once with one male. Remating occurs only when the initial copulation is disturbed or there is an unsuccessful sperm transfer. The neighbouring males make frequent attempts to disturb copulation, but recopulation is generally not directed towards the disturber. The females prefer males that are successful in male combat to produce a viable offspring and avoid disease transmission.

Assortative mating and female clutch investment in black grouse
Article Abstract:
A study of the sexual behavior of the female black grouse, tetrao tetrix, was investigated. Results showed that females that have mated with the highest ranked males and old females laid the largest clutches. The female condition was also found to be positively related to the male rank but not to her clutch size. Moreover, females in good condition visited a greater number of male territories. The results suggested an assortative mating pattern within the specie.
