Perceived predation risk as a function of predator dietary cues in terrestrial salamanders
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to evaluate the behavioral responses of terrestrial red-backed salamanders, Plethodon cinereus, from garter snakes, Thamnophis sirtalis, which are known to be their predators and earthworm-eaters. Results indicate that salamanders are highly-sensitive to perceived predation risk even through the by-products of predator diet. It was also observed that antipredator behavior in terrestrial salamanders was more easily assumed when they sensed the predation risk of salamander-fed snakes than those fed with earthworms.

Sex-biased mortality in woodrats occurs in the absence of parental intervention
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to test whether maternal discrimination against offspring correlates with postnatal mortality in sexually dimorphic rodents. Mother rodents and their litters were observed for evidence of maternal discrimination while data analyses were carried out using a SAS statistical software package. Results showed that young males were more prone to die than females after the period of parental care. They also suggested that the males were more susceptible to starvation than their female counterparts.

Hunting behaviour of a sympatric felid and canid in relation to vegetative cover
Article Abstract:
Studies show that felids hunt in dense vegetative cover, while canids do not make use of any vegetative cover while stalking their prey. The hunting behavior of lynx was compared to that of coyotes. Lynx change their hunting methods according to the vegetable cover available while coyotes have fixed hunting methods. The impact of a snow cover on the hunting tactics of each of the species is also discussed.
