Phosphorylation of transcription factor p62TCF by MAP kinase stimulates ternary complex formation at c-fos promoter
Article Abstract:
Mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase phosphorylates the p62TCF transcription factor; this phosphorylation in turn causes enhanced ternary complex formation at the c-fos proto-oncogene promoter. These findings indicate that the expression of the human c-fos proto-oncogene is associated with signal transduction pathways that become active before the proto-oncogene is induced. This research supports the hypothesis that MAP kinase is responsible for transmitting proliferative signals.

Autophosphorylation at serine 1987 is dispensable for murine Atm activation in vivod
Article Abstract:
A demonstration that ataxia telangiectasis mutated (Atm)-dependent responses are functional at the organismal and cellular level in mice that express a mutant form of Atm as their sole Atm species is presented. Results suggest an alternative mode for stimulation of Atm by double-strand breaks (DSBs) in which Atm autophosphorylation at Ser 1987, like transphosphorylation of donwstream substrates, is a consequence rather than a cause of Atm activation.

Polo kinase controls cell-cycle-dependent transcription by targeting a coactivator protein
Article Abstract:
Polo kinase Cdc5p is shown to control cell-cycle-dependent gene expression that is vital for the execution of mitosis in the model eukaryote Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Severe defects in cell division occur in the absence of Cdc5p-mediated phosphorylation of Ndd1p and hence polo kinase is required for the production of key mitotic regulators.
