Plan to limit Cambridge high-tech growth
Article Abstract:
Plans to restrict the numbers of new-high technology companies being established near the city of Cambridge will be defended by local authorities. The East of England Business Group will challenge the planned restrictions, after a report stated that such restrictions would jeopardize prosperity and economic growth. However the Standing Conference of East Anglian Local Authorities wants to concentrate on more deprived urban areas.

Cloning technique 'reveals legal loophole.' (UK Human Fertilization and Embryology Act of 1990)
Article Abstract:
The successful cloning of a sheep from adult cells in Scotland has raised concerns over a possible loophole in the UK Human Fertilization and Embryology Act of 1990 that may allow the cloning of humans. The law only prohibits the cloning of embryos and does not say anything about the cloning of cells taken from adult organisms. Some are calling for the immediate correction of any possible weaknesses in the law.

Expert group to look at UK cloning law...
Article Abstract:
The British government is to set up an expert advisory group to consider the risks and benefits of cloning techniques. The Human Fertilization and Embryology Act of 1990 bans the use of cloning techniques on human embryos, but there is a call for therapeutic cloning to be allowed. Therapeutic cloning techniques could provide immunologically compatible tissue for treating degenerative diseases.
